Card Features & Benefits

BookMyShow Benefit

The Visa Signature debit card includes a compelling offer for moviegoers: up to Rs. 250 cashback per month on BookMyShow transactions. Key points:

  • Log in to BookMyShow and pay for movie tickets or other events using the IDFC First Visa Signature debit card.
  • There are no restrictive conditions such as specific days, time windows, limited quotas, minimum ticket counts, or minimum spends.
  • No coupon code is required; you may use a BookMyShow promo code in addition if you have one.
  • Cashback is credited to the savings account on or before the 15th of the following month.
  • If your transaction is Rs. 250 or more, you receive a flat Rs. 250 cashback; for transactions below Rs. 250, you receive cashback equal to the transaction amount.
  • Cashback includes the convenience fee paid (at least for the current offer period).
  • Offer was valid through 31 March 2020; it may be extended, modified, or subject to new terms in the future.
  • Cashback is credited only if the average monthly balance (AMB) of the savings account is maintained above Rs. 25,000.
  • Note: The BookMyShow benefit was withdrawn from October 2021.
  • From 30 June 2022, the Visa Signature debit card carries an annual fee of Rs. 499 + GST (certain relationship banking customers such as Select, Wealth and Private customers may be exempt for now).

Other Benefits

The Visa Signature debit card also provides several common private-bank features:

  • Fuel surcharge waiver, allowance for any-bank ATM cash withdrawals, and complimentary death/permanent disability insurance (terms apply).
  • Complimentary airport lounge access, limited to two visits per quarter.

Limitations

  • No reward points program currently. The card is most valuable for merchant offers, the BookMyShow benefit (when active), and lounge access rather than general rewards accumulation.
  • When opening the account, request the Visa Signature debit card explicitly during KYC; the bank also issues a Platinum variant with fewer benefits and a lower AMB requirement.

Account features & benefits

  • Interest on savings was previously structured as 6% for balances below Rs. 1 lakh and 7% above it. From 01.01.2021, the bank offered 7% on balances up to Rs. 1 crore (subject to the bank’s prevailing rates and terms).
  • Fixed deposit rates are competitive (around 7.5% when noted), but deposits are protected by the Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC) only up to the insured limit (Rs. 5 lakh per depositor per bank as applicable).

Welcome offer

  • 10% cashback on the first card transaction, up to a maximum of Rs. 250.
  • To qualify, the first transaction should be above Rs. 1,000 using the IDFC First Visa Signature debit card.
  • Cashback is posted on or before the 15th of the following month.

Birthday Offer

  • Spend Rs. 5,000 or more during your birthday month.
  • Receive a gift voucher worth Rs. 250 redeemable at Amazon, Shoppers Stop, or BookMyShow.
  • Voucher is issued before the end of the month following your birthday month.

My Application Experience

I applied for an IDFC First savings account on 13 June. The account and card issuance proceeded quickly as follows:

  • 13.06.2019 – Applied online via the bank’s “Apply Now” option.
  • 14.06.2019 – A bank executive visited my home to complete KYC.
  • 18.06.2019 – Received an SMS with account details.
  • 19.06.2019 – Received courier AWB tracking details (Bluedart).
  • 20.06.2019 – Card delivered to my address.

The onboarding was fast even without Aadhaar-based KYC; the executive indicated Aadhaar KYC would have been even quicker. The debit card has a glossy finish with embossed details and a maroon-red design.

Bottomline

  • CardExpert Rating: 4/5

Overall, the IDFC First Visa Signature debit card is a solid option for frequent BookMyShow users thanks to its monthly cashback feature (when active). If you rarely use BookMyShow, the lack of a reward-point system reduces the card’s appeal.

The birthday voucher is a useful perk for customers who spend on the card occasionally. For high spenders seeking broad rewards, a card with a dedicated reward program may be a better fit.

Given the relatively low cost of maintaining the savings account and the benefits of a Visa Signature debit card, this offering earns a recommendation for those who value the specific merchant and lounge benefits. Continued availability of specific offers, such as the BookMyShow cashback, depends on the bank’s promotional schedule and may change over time.
