Since the merger with Vistara, Air India has steadily worked to create a clearer, more distinctive brand. The transformation remains a work in progress, but by 2026 travellers should notice a more consistent, premium experience across the airline’s network.
Recently Air India circulated a newsletter that outlines several planned updates for 2026. Many of these changes focus on loyalty benefits and the airline’s co-branded credit card offerings.
A headline item is an overhaul of the Maharaja Club loyalty programme. The airline’s message provides an early look at how the programme will evolve and how members can expect to earn and redeem benefits going forward.
At present, Air India co-branded credit cards have not been available for new applicants for some time. For example, the Air India Signature Credit Card and similar products were placed on hold while the airline integrates its offering post-merger.
At the same time, Vistara’s co-branded cards are being transitioned away. Some cardholders have already seen their Vistara-branded cards converted to bank proprietary products; for instance, an IndusInd Vistara card was recently replaced by a standard IndusInd card.
These moves signal that refreshed Air India co-branded credit cards are likely on the horizon. The new cards are expected to reflect the merged carrier’s identity and appeal to both Air India loyalists and Star Alliance frequent flyers.
Beyond credit cards, Air India has confirmed plans to enable points accrual and redemption on flights operated by Air India Express. This is especially welcome for domestic travellers, since many short-haul routes have been moved to Air India Express and were previously ineligible for Maharaja Club benefits.
When will these changes take effect? Since Air India has publicly announced the updates, it’s reasonable to expect implementations to occur on or before March 2026. That timeline gives the airline several months to finalize systems and partner integrations.
Taken together, these developments suggest 2026 will be an important year for the airline’s loyalty ecosystem. Members should watch for official communications detailing the new Maharaja Club structure, the launch of updated co-branded credit cards, and the rollout of points earning and redemption across more flights.
For now, travellers and miles collectors can look forward to a more unified programme and better opportunities to earn and use rewards across the combined Air India network as the carrier continues its post-merger transformation.
