HDFC Infinia Metal, Galaxia & Infinia Reserve: Top 12 FAQs

Disclaimer: The information below reflects my best understanding from various sources and has not been verified with the bank involved.

1. What’s new with HDFC Infinia Metal Edition?

The metal variant of the HDFC Infinia differs primarily in its construction and a higher renewal fee. Aside from the metal form factor and the associated fee change, the card’s features remain the same as the standard Infinia.

2. Should I upgrade my Infinia to Metal Edition?

Whether to upgrade depends on personal preference and your annual spending pattern. If your yearly spend exceeds INR 10 lakh, upgrading has little practical effect on benefits—so choose based on how much you value the metal card’s look and feel versus the higher renewal fee.

3. Are you upgrading to Infinia Metal Edition Sid?

Not at the moment. My annual cycle just ended, so I can continue using my current card without meeting additional spend requirements for a fee waiver for another two years. I also prefer the existing plastic design over the new metal look, though I might try the metal version as an add-on card to test it.

4. My Infinia is LTF. Can I take Infinia Metal Edition as LTF too?

Currently, metal upgrades are offered only on a fee-bearing basis (FYF). There is a possibility that a branch manager or relationship manager could make the metal card LTF for valued customers in the future, but that is not being offered widely today.

5. My annual “cycle” on Infinia is renewing next month. Will I get the Metal Edition?

No. Your existing Infinia will continue on its current pricing and renewal terms. You will, however, enjoy most Infinia Metal Edition benefits on the existing card—except for any welcome or renewal-specific benefits tied to the metal product.

6. My Infinia card is expiring soon. Will I get upgraded to Metal Edition?

Not at present, though policies can change. Some customers have extended a card’s expiry by reporting it lost or stolen and requesting a replacement a few months before expiry; this sometimes results in a later expiry date. If HDFC decides to convert all Infinia cards to metal automatically, such tactics might not work. That said, not all customers prefer the metal design, so an across-the-board conversion seems unlikely in the immediate term.

7. Can I upgrade my Regalia to Infinia Metal Edition?

So far, only existing Infinia cards are being upgraded to the Infinia Metal Edition. Other cardholders have been moved to the standard plastic Infinia in recent upgrade rounds.

8. What’s the criteria for Infinia Metal Edition upgrade?

Early upgrade offers appeared to target customers with annual spends above INR 15 lakh via net-banking notifications. Subsequent rounds may have lowered the threshold to around INR 10 lakh. If you don’t receive an automatic offer, you can still request an upgrade by contacting Infinia support.

9. What is this Galaxia Credit Card?

There’s limited reliable information on the so-called Galaxia card. Social media rumors suggest a high cashback structure (over 4%), a hefty annual fee (~INR 20,000), and a waiver threshold around INR 25 lakh, but these claims are unconfirmed and should be treated cautiously.

10. What is Infinia Reserve?

Readers have reported traces of an Infinia Reserve product being tested on the Mastercard network a few months ago. No official materials or fee/benefit disclosures have been published yet. It’s possible regulatory or network-related issues delayed its rollout, or it may appear on another platform such as Visa Infinite. Infinia Reserve would fit HDFC’s tendency to extend established product names rather than introduce an entirely new flagship, so it seems a plausible direction for a higher-tier card.

11. Shall I wait for the Ultra Premium Credit Card?

A new ultra-premium card from HDFC appears likely at some point. If you’re aiming specifically for a future ultra-premium product (Infinia Reserve or a similarly named card), you might skip the Infinia Metal upgrade. Upgrades can trigger a soft cooling period—often around a year—during which further premium upgrades are restricted.

12. When can we expect the new HDFC Ultra Premium Credit Cards?

There is no confirmed launch date. If development and timing align well within the bank and market, a new ultra-premium card could appear within several months, but this is speculative. No official announcements have been made, so timelines remain uncertain.
