HDFC Bank Relaunches Free CIBIL Score and Credit Report

Free CIBIL Report from HDFC

Update: This service has been discontinued at the moment.

HDFC introduced a free CIBIL score and report service in August 2019 that many customers used. After some time the bank stopped accepting new registrations, although existing accounts continued to work and could still be refreshed.

Recently the feature appeared to be re-enabled, as reported by a user, and HDFC Bank even sent a promotional email announcing it. The email highlighted the practical advantages of having a good credit score—worth a look if you missed it.

Benefits of Good CIBIL Score

In short, a higher CIBIL score can improve your chances of getting higher credit limits or card upgrades, among other benefits.

Final Thoughts

I personally don’t rely on this HDFC benefit because I maintain an annual CIBIL membership, but the free access is useful for checking the credit reports and scores of family members.

The free HDFC account allows you to refresh your CIBIL report every three months, which is sufficient for most cardholders who monitor their credit periodically.

If you hold an ICICI Wealth account, that bank also provides free CIBIL access—twice, once through the app and once via net-banking—making a paid CIBIL plan unnecessary for many users.
