Note: Sep 2022 offer updated below
HDFC Bank surprised cardholders with a limited-time redemption enhancement, allowing HDFC Infinia and Diners Club Black cardmembers to convert reward points into eVouchers at a rate of Rs. 0.70 per point instead of the usual Rs. 0.50 per point.
Oct 2021 Offer
This short promotion ran for only three days. Key details:
- Offer: Redeem points for vouchers at 1 point = Rs. 0.70
- Offer period: 1 October to 3 October 2021
While this uplift is attractive for many cardholders, Infinia metal cardholders may see even better redemption options in the future — for example, 1:1 redemptions on Apple product purchases or Tanishq vouchers. That potential makes it important for Infinia holders to consider whether to use points at 70 paise each or to wait for higher-value redemptions.
Diners Black cardholders should also weigh options carefully. HDFC treats Infinia and Diners Black similarly in many respects, so any broader changes to redemption rates or benefits could affect both products. For now, however, this 70 paise redemption window was a brief, standalone opportunity.
Redemption is processed through the HDFC SmartBuy portal. Select your eligible card under privileges and complete the voucher redemption online.
I tested the process by redeeming Amazon vouchers worth Rs. 10,000 and found the experience smooth. The voucher was delivered instantly, whereas typical delivery can take several days.
Sep 2022 Offer
- Offer: Redeem points for vouchers at 1 point = Rs. 0.70
- Offer period: 23 September to 25 September 2022
HDFC repeated the three-day promotion in September 2022. As before, Amazon eVouchers were a popular and practical option to redeem points during the offer window.
Keep in mind that redeeming at Rs. 0.70 per point effectively reduces the card’s reward yield. For example, depending on your spending mix, this redemption rate can lower the card’s effective reward value from roughly 3.3% to about 2.3%. For that reason, it generally isn’t advisable to convert your entire points balance at the discounted rate unless you specifically need Amazon Pay balance or similar vouchers.
Also remember that Infinia offers 1:1 redemption value for certain categories such as Apple products and Tanishq vouchers, so the 70 paise option is most useful to Diners Black cardholders or Infinia users who do not plan to use category-specific 1:1 redemptions.
Summary: Don’t rush to redeem your full points balance at 70 paise unless you need the vouchers immediately—Infinia cardholders in particular may benefit from waiting for higher-value redemptions.
