Last month brought an impressive Amex–Marriott promotion offering 50% extra points on Marriott Bonvoy transfers. That promotion ended in October 2019, and now American Express India has launched a new offer that can save you roughly 25% on Marriott spending. Details of the offer are below.

Marriott Amex Spend-Based Offer
- Offer: Spend ₹20,000 or more, in one or more transactions, at participating Marriott Bonvoy properties by 31/12/2019 to receive a one-time ₹5,000 cashback.
- Valid at participating Marriott Bonvoy properties in India, Thailand, Japan, Singapore, Australia, Hong Kong, New Zealand.
- Cashback should appear on your billing statement within 5 business days of the qualifying spend, but may take up to 90 days from the offer end date of 31/12/2019.
- Other terms and conditions.
This follows a similar Amex promotion previously run with Hilton. The Marriott offer provides a meaningful saving—about 25%—if you meet the minimum spend requirement.
Enrolling in Amex offers is straightforward: log into your Amex account and opt in with a single click. The Offers section appears below your Recent Transactions in your online account.

Bottom line
Marriott appears to be taking positive steps in the market, and this type of promotion may indicate they’re preparing for a broader credit card push in India. Regular, generous offers like this can make using a general Amex card feel very similar to holding a dedicated Marriott card for many customers.
Separately, there are reports that Amex is developing a new premium card positioned between the Platinum Charge and Centurion, reportedly carrying a US annual fee of about $1,500 and possibly named “Optio.” Rumors suggest it could include Marriott Platinum status, though whether such a product would launch in India is still uncertain.
Overall, this Marriott spend-based promo is a strong short-term opportunity for eligible Amex cardholders who have upcoming Marriott plans. If you can meet the ₹20,000 threshold before 31/12/2019, the effective 25% saving is compelling.
