HDFC has introduced three new welcome offers in addition to its regular 5x/10x promotions. These welcome offers apply to newly issued cards only. In some cases they may also apply to upgraded cards, as happened previously, but you should confirm with customer care if you believe an upgrade may qualify.
HDFC Credit Card Welcome Offers
#1 Earn 5X Reward Points on other transactions
- Valid on all transactions in a month, once during any of the first four months after card setup, provided there are at least five transactions that month.
- Applicable for cards sourced in June, July, August, and September.
- Applies only to transactions that are not part of any 10X promotion during that month.
- Maximum cap: 1,000 reward points for Regalia, Regalia First and Infinia; 2,000 reward points for Diners cards.
- Offer valid until 31 December 2017.
#2 BookMyShow Vouchers
- Valid only for new HDFC Bank credit card holders.
- Use the card five times in a month during the first 90 days after issuance to receive one BookMyShow voucher worth Rs.250.
- Use the card ten times in a month during the first 90 days to receive two Rs.250 BookMyShow vouchers.
- Use the card 15 times in a month during the first 90 days to receive three Rs.250 BookMyShow vouchers.
- Offer applicable only on retail credit cards.
- Available to customers in Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Delhi and Chandigarh.
#3 Recharge Vouchers
- Valid for all HDFC Bank retail credit card holders.
- Use the card three times in a month during the first 90 days to receive a mobile recharge voucher worth Rs.100.
- Use the card six times or more in a month during the first 90 days to receive a mobile recharge voucher worth Rs.200.
- Not applicable for customers in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata and Chandigarh.
- Recharge vouchers are valid only for prepaid numbers; postpaid customers may provide any prepaid number for redemption.
There is also a 5% cashback offer with Smart Pay, though it is relatively small. Limiting some offers to specific cities reduces accessibility for many cardholders.
Bottom Line:
Despite mixed experiences with HDFC customer service and occasional challenges in obtaining promised benefits, the bank continues to roll out attractive welcome offers. The 5X reward points promotion is valuable, though the low maximum cap limits how much benefit a cardholder can extract. Still, these offers provide useful incremental value for new cardholders.
