Jet Airways Business Class Review: Mumbai (BOM) to Bangkok (BKK)

I had been looking forward to flying Jet Airways International Business Class for nearly a year. I originally planned to take it on the MAA–SIN sector, but that route changed and I ended up flying Air India on the 787 Dreamliner instead. Recently I travelled to Mumbai specifically to experience Jet Airways Premiere and the GVK Lounge. Below is a detailed account of my Mumbai–Bangkok Business Class flight.

Introduction

This trip included two flights:

  • Chennai (MAA) – Mumbai (BOM)
  • Mumbai (BOM) – Bangkok (BKK) (this review)

This article focuses on the Jet Airways international Business Class service on the Mumbai–Bangkok sector. Key booking details:

  • Total Cost: 60,000 JPMiles + 5,000 INR (taxes)

Tip: booking two award tickets on a single PNR often results in lower taxes than booking them separately.

Flight Info

  • Flight: Jet Airways 9W 60
  • Aircraft: Boeing 737
  • Route: Mumbai (BOM) – Bangkok (BKK)
  • Seat: 1F (Premiere / Business Class)
  • Revenue Ticket: ~36,000 INR
  • Occupancy: 2 Adults in the business cabin
  • Paid for this sector: 45,000 JPMiles + taxes

In pure redemption value terms this wasn’t the most efficient use of JPMiles (roughly ~0.75 INR per mile), but I had a targeted offer that provided bonus miles, so it made sense for me.

Ground Experience

1. Dedicated Check-in

Business Class passengers normally have access to dedicated check-in counters, but because I was transiting from a domestic to an international flight in Mumbai, that benefit did not apply. I had already collected my boarding pass for the connecting international flight during the domestic check-in.

You could save: 25 mins (when applicable)

2. Fast Track Security Lane

Mumbai’s T2 offers a fast-track security lane for premium passengers. On my transit the dedicated lane didn’t come into effect, but there was no transit queue and I moved through security quickly.

You could save: 15 mins

3. Fast Track Immigration

After security, there was a separate immigration lane for Business Class passengers which I used. With hardly anyone in line I cleared immigration in a minute or two.

Saved: 25 mins

Overall, I cleared security and immigration in under five minutes—one of the perks of premium travel.

4. Lounge Access

Jet Airways Business Class passengers can use the GVK Lounge (East Wing) at Mumbai T2. It’s an excellent lounge, well suited for international departures.

In Flight Experience

1. The Seat

The leather seats in Jet Airways’ international Business Class are soft and comfortable. The cabin feels a bit dated, but the seats were perfectly serviceable for the short international hop. I was surprised to find only two passengers in the business cabin on this flight, which made the experience quiet and relaxed.

2. Welcome Drink

Shortly after boarding I was offered a welcome watermelon juice, followed by a cold towel, reading materials and the dining menu. A small but pleasant start to the flight.

3. Champagne

During the snack service I chose to sample a glass of Champagne. The crew served it promptly with a selection of snacks and checked in to ensure everything was to my liking.

Snack service lasted about an hour before the multi-course meal service began.

4. Food

I selected the South Indian non-vegetarian option. The meal included:

  • Soup
  • Vegetable salad
  • Main course (rice & chicken curry)
  • Dessert

Soup: A surprising highlight. The soup arrived in a generous bowl and was exceptionally tasty—one of the best soups I’ve had on a flight.

Salad: The salad was colourful and fresh, with a dressing that complemented the vegetables perfectly. It stood out compared with many hotel salads I’ve tried—very well executed.

Main Course: The rice and chicken curry were comforting and flavorful. Jet Airways has consistently delivered good chicken curry on its services.

Dessert: A simple piece of cake to finish the meal—nothing extraordinary but a pleasant end to the service.

In Flight Entertainment

Jet Airways offers an in-flight entertainment system called Jetscreen. I used it primarily to track the flight rather than watch movies or shows, but the system provides a decent selection for passengers who want it.

Fast Track Immigration (Arrival)

Before landing, Business Class passengers received the Thailand immigration departure card and a “Premium Lane” pass for priority immigration. This is intended to speed up arrival formalities.

Saved: ~20 mins

Despite the priority pass, I encountered a long wait at the Visa on Arrival counters due to a surge of arrivals taking advantage of a visa fee waiver during my visit. Even with a paid fast-track option at the airport I spent around an hour in the queue, which reduced the benefit of the premium lane.

Baggage arrived early, but by the time I reached the carousel I had already spent significant time in the immigration area.

Bottomline

Overall, the Jet Airways international Business Class experience on this short international sector was very positive. The combination of attentive service and tasty food made up for the older cabin and seat configuration. For anyone wanting a comfortable short-haul international Business Class experience, Jet Airways remains a straightforward option.

I hope to try one of their wide-body aircraft on a longer route in the future. Have you flown Jet Airways Business Class internationally or are you planning to? Share your thoughts in the comments.
