If you enjoy luxury shopping, you’ve likely heard of the Bicester Collection Villages. These open-air shopping destinations have become popular with luxury travellers for their curated brand mix, attractive discounts, and VIP experiences that make them more than just outlets.
On a recent trip to Ireland in 2025, I visited Kildare Village, part of the Bicester Collection, and experienced the VIP amenities firsthand. Below I detail what you can expect, how the main services work, and how certain cards and programs can unlock these benefits.

The Bicester Collection
The Bicester Collection operates a network of luxury outlet villages across Europe, China and the United States. While Bicester Village near London is the best known, the collection includes multiple destinations worldwide.
- Europe: 9 Villages (UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Belgium)
- China: 2 Villages (Shanghai, Suzhou)
- USA: 2 Villages (New York & Los Angeles via The Bicester Collection US partnership)
Each village hosts a range of luxury and premium brands, often offering discounts of up to 60% off retail prices, all set in boutique-style outdoor streets.
What’s special?
The Bicester Collection runs a loyalty program that rewards frequent and high-spending shoppers with extra discounts, exclusive perks, and curated experiences. Many of these benefits are also extended through select global partners such as Mastercard, Visa, American Express and some banks.
Key perks you can expect include:
- The Apartment Access (private lounge)
- VIP Pass: additional 10% discount at participating boutiques
- Hands-Free Shopping (bag collection and delivery to Guest Services)
- Priority parking and several other conveniences
To ensure a smooth visit, get email confirmation of the services you plan to use at least two days beforehand, as some villages can get busy, particularly in peak seasons.
Below I break down these services and share my experience at Kildare Village, Ireland.
The Apartment
The Apartment is a private lounge within the village, a calm retreat from the shopping bustle — think of it as an airport lounge for outlet shopping. It offers comfortable seating, tasteful interiors, and a quieter environment to relax between stores.
Refreshments such as tea, coffee, light snacks and a selection of drinks are available, though food offerings are modest compared with larger airport lounges.
Personal experience:
I’ve visited Kildare Village several times over the past three years and finally tried The Apartment on this trip. At Guest Services, staff verified our eligibility and escorted us to the lounge. The Apartment spans two floors, with ample seating and a well-designed interior. During our visit occupancy was low, so the experience felt calm and exclusive. Staff were courteous and professional throughout.
I chose a hot chocolate from the refreshment options and it arrived with light snacks. The lounge also provides private fitting rooms and a well-appointed restroom with premium towels — a welcome relief from crowded public facilities.
Note that access is typically limited to once per person per day for around 40 minutes, a restriction likely intended to preserve the lounge’s calm and exclusivity. Specific rules may vary by village.
VIP Pass
The VIP Pass provides an additional 10% discount at participating boutiques. While 10% may seem modest, it adds up on larger purchases. You typically generate a QR code online to redeem the benefit at stores.
In practice the extra discount applies at many but not all boutiques. For example, during my visit one store declined to apply the VIP discount because the item was already on discount, while another honoured it.
Hands-Free Shopping
Hands-Free Shopping is one of the most useful perks. Once activated, boutique staff collect your purchases and deliver the sealed bags to Guest Services, so you don’t have to carry them while you continue shopping or visit The Apartment.
Guest Services provides a QR code you show at stores; after billing, the store sends the sealed items to Guest Services for collection. Delivery time can vary — expect around 30 minutes or more during busy periods. In my experience the service worked smoothly and made the day far more comfortable.
Accessing the benefits
Several cards and partner programs provide access to Bicester Collection benefits. In India, current options include:
- Axis Multi-currency Forex Card: VIP Pass only
- Axis Burgundy Multi-currency Forex Card: VIP Pass, Apartment Access, Hands-Free Shopping
- Accor loyalty tiers (Gold/Platinum/Diamond): benefits vary by tier
Globally, partners include American Express, HSBC Premier, Visa Infinite and Mastercard World Elite. Availability of these partner benefits can vary by country and card issuer, and some previously available offers may be inactive in certain regions.
Points & Miles on Spends
You can often earn points or miles with partner loyalty programs — for example Accor ALL, some frequent flyer programs and hotel loyalty schemes. After my purchase I contacted the village’s frequent traveller team to request Accor points credit; they processed the claim within about two weeks.
While the awards may be modest, earning points or miles on outlet purchases adds further value to the trip.
Bottomline
The Apartment at Kildare Village elevates the shopping day by providing a private, comfortable space to relax, plus perks such as VIP discounts and hands-free shopping that simplify the experience. For serious shoppers these benefits improve convenience and enjoyment.
It would be welcome to see more Indian banks and card issuers extend similar partnerships, and for the Bicester Collection to consider expanding into new markets. Until then, visiting a village like Kildare remains a distinctive way to shop luxury brands with curated service and good savings.
