Launched in mid-2017, the SBI PRIME Credit Card remained one of SBI Card’s most competitive offerings for several years. Cardholders valued its milestone rewards, birthday perks, airport lounge access, and fee-waiver opportunities tied to spending. These features helped SBICard capture a meaningful share of India’s premium credit card market.
However, significant program changes in 2021 and 2022 reduced some of its earlier advantages. Below is an updated, concise review of the card’s current features to help you decide whether it still fits your wallet.

Overview
| Type | Semi-Premium Credit Card |
| Reward Rate | 0.5% – 4% |
| Best for | Rewards on accelerated categories |
| USP | Quarterly/Annual Milestone Rewards |
SBI Prime was once a top-tier reward card, but changes to accelerated-category caps have reduced its earning potential compared with earlier years.
Joining Fees
| Joining Fee | 2,999 INR + GST |
| Welcome Benefit | Rs. 3,000 e-gift Voucher |
| Renewal Fee / Annual Fee | 2,999 INR + GST |
| Renewal Benefit | Nil |
| Renewal Fee waiver | On spending >3 lakhs |
- Welcome Gift Voucher Options: Bata/Hush Puppies, Pantaloons, Aditya Birla Fashion, Shoppers Stop and Yatra.com
For renewal, SBICard typically charges the annual fee and refunds it if you meet the spend threshold. While this achieves the waiver, it can cause confusion for customers who prefer the fee not be charged in the first place.

Application note: some application flows work better on desktop. If prompted, choose the card preference during the apply journey.
Design

The SBI Prime card has an attractive, modern look that still feels current. The metal-like finish and clean aesthetic make it one of SBICard’s better-designed options.
Rewards
Rewards on SBI Prime are split into three types: Regular, Accelerated and Milestone. Below is the current breakdown:
| SPEND TYPE | REWARD POINTS | REWARD RATE |
|---|---|---|
| Regular Spends | 2 RP / 100 INR | 0.50% |
| Dining, Groceries, Departmental stores & Movies | 10 RP / 100 INR | 2.5% |
| Birthday Spends (one day before & after) |
10 RP / 100 INR | 2.5% |
- Value per Reward Point: Rs. 0.25 (points can be redeemed as statement credit)
- Category exclusions and merchant-level filters apply, as with other SBI Cards
Redeeming points as statement credit requires contacting SBICard customer care; a redemption fee of Rs.99 per request applies. Note that birthday rewards, once an especially valuable feature for many cardholders, are now capped.
Milestone Benefit
| SPEND | MILESTONE BENEFIT | Savings |
|---|---|---|
| 50,000 INR (per calendar quarter) |
1,000 INR (Pizzahut Voucher) |
~2% |
| 5 Lakhs (per Year) |
7,000 INR (Yatra/Pantaloons Voucher) |
~1.4% |
Milestone rewards remain the card’s standout feature: meeting quarterly and annual spend thresholds can deliver meaningful value. The quarterly reward equates to roughly a 2% benefit on that quarter’s spend, while the annual milestone yields about 1.4% on the specified annual spend. The usefulness depends on whether you value the offered vouchers; preferences vary by person and by voucher merchant.
Update: From 22 Feb 2021, the birthday benefit is capped at 2,000 Reward Points per year.
Airport Lounge Access
| ACCESS TYPE | ACCESS VIA | LIMIT |
|---|---|---|
| Domestic (Primary) | Visa / Mastercard | 2/Qtr |
| International (Primary) | Priority Pass | 4 (Max: 2/Qtr) |
Lounge access is available only to the primary cardholder. If you receive a Priority Pass, note that it typically has an expiry (often two years), so check issuance terms and validity.
Other Benefits
- Complimentary Club Vistara Silver membership (includes one upgrade voucher)
- BookMyShow benefit (available to Visa variants)
- Complimentary Trident Privilege Red Tier membership and related perks
Golf Benefit
- Complimentary lessons: 1 per month
- Complimentary games: 4 per year
There is no universal in-built golf package for every SBI Prime card; however, Mastercard World Golf benefits may apply if your card is a Mastercard. Keep in mind that choosing Mastercard may mean losing some Visa-specific benefits such as BookMyShow offers.
Should you get it?
If you spend around 5 lakhs annually and unlock the annual milestone, the card’s effective returns look like this:
- Approximately 2% overall return on general spends that meet milestone thresholds
- Up to ~4% effective return on dining and grocery categories if the majority of your spend falls in those accelerated categories
The quarterly Pizzahut voucher may not be useful to everyone, so the actual value depends on how much you can make use of the merchant vouchers. Considering the fee waiver at Rs. 3 lakh annual spend, lounge access, and other perks, the card can still be worthwhile for selective users at the Rs. 2,999 + GST fee point—especially if a significant portion of your spending is on accelerated categories like dining or groceries.

Application tip: the apply experience sometimes works best on desktop. Select your preferred variant during the apply journey.
Bottomline
- Cardexpert Rating: 3/5
SBI PRIME was a strong choice in earlier years, but changes to reward caps and program rules mean it’s no longer the standout product it once was. Simpler, higher-return alternatives from the same issuer now exist—for example, cards that offer straightforward cashback on online spends or stronger returns on targeted annual spend buckets. If your spending profile matches the Prime card’s benefits and you can utilize the vouchers and lounge access, it remains a decent option. Otherwise, comparing it to lower-fee or higher-return SBI offerings is recommended.
