SBI Signature Credit Card Review: Benefits, Fees & Rewards

Update: This card is no longer issued by SBI and has been replaced by SBI Card Elite. The product has been updated and restructured accordingly.

I’ve recently been exploring a variety of credit cards and had largely ignored SBI because many of their premium cards carry a joining fee. I finally decided to apply for the SBI Visa Signature card when I planned to shop at Jabong and discovered that SBI offers a welcome e-gift voucher worth Rs. 5,000 for new Signature cardholders. You can choose the voucher from one of these brands: Yatra, Jabong, Marks & Spencer, Westside, or Shoppers Stop.

Joining Fee / Annual Fee: Rs. 4,999 + Service Tax (total Rs. 5,725)

SBI Signature Credit Card Application Process

It took about 20 days for my card to arrive after I applied. While that felt long, the delivery was memorable: the card arrived in a large box with catalogs, and the card itself was placed in a personalized card holder with my name on it. The presentation added a nice personal touch and I now use that holder for other premium cards as well.

One drawback is the timing for the welcome voucher: the joining fee is charged on the first statement, and SBI issues the voucher only after 28 days from payment, with another 15 days for delivery. In practice, it can take nearly two months from application to receive the gift voucher, which is longer than ideal.

SBIcard Customer Service Review

Aside from the lengthy timelines for card issuance and welcome benefits, the rest of the experience has been smooth and professional. Activating the card, setting the PIN, and managing the account were straightforward. The SBI Card net-banking interface is clean and user-friendly (note: SBI Card and SBI Bank are operated separately).

Customer service is responsive. When I raised a request, I received a callback within 12 hours; generally they respond within 24 hours. The speed and ease of communication impressed me.

Signature Rewards

A primary reason I selected the SBI Signature card is its rewarding points structure, which includes generous bonus points in addition to regular rewards. Key points:

  • 1 Reward Point = Rs. 0.25
  • Regular earn rate: 2 reward points per Rs. 100 spent (approx. 0.5% value)
  • Accelerated earn rate: 10 reward points per Rs. 100 spent (approx. 2.5% value)
  • Bonus: Earn 10,000 Reward Points on achieving annual spends of Rs. 2 lakh, Rs. 3 lakh, and Rs. 4 lakh
  • Bonus: Earn 20,000 Reward Points on crossing annual spends of Rs. 5 lakh

If you use the card heavily, it can deliver strong value. For example, spending Rs. 5 lakh in a year can earn 10,000 regular RP plus 50,000 RP in annual bonuses for a total of 60,000 RP, equivalent to Rs. 15,000 (about 3% value).

This reward potential compares favorably against many premium cards and the option to redeem reward points as statement credit is particularly valuable—few Indian cards offer such cash redemption flexibility.

Complimentary Movie Tickets

The SBI Signature card also includes complimentary movie ticket benefits worth up to Rs. 500. The offer is structured so that if you buy two tickets, each priced at Rs. 300 (total Rs. 600), you receive a Rs. 500 discount (Rs. 250 off each ticket), resulting in a net payment of Rs. 100. This can lead to significant annual savings on movie tickets.

Note: The daily quota for this movie ticket offer is not specified. I will update if I encounter any restrictions or issues.

Features of SBI Visa Signature Credit Card

  • Reward rate: ~0.5% normally, up to ~3% with accelerated rewards
  • Accelerated rewards: 5X reward points on dining, departmental stores, grocery, and international spends
  • Complimentary airport lounge access: Available via Visa Signature Lounge Access program; complimentary Priority Pass membership included (note restrictions may apply)

Final Words on SBI Signature Credit Card

Overall, SBI Card demonstrates strong product design and efficient processes. The Signature card can be a compelling choice for frequent spenders—particularly those spending around Rs. 5–6 lakh annually—where the rewards and bonuses deliver meaningful savings. If your annual spend is significantly above or below that range, the card’s benefits may be less impactful.

I hope this review helps you evaluate whether the card suits your spending and rewards goals.
