The Standard Chartered Ultimate Credit Card is the bank’s flagship product, offering one of the strongest reward rates on routine spending. Since its launch it quickly moved into the Super Premium segment. Its main advantage is broad eligibility for earning reward points — there have been no category exclusions so far, and even EMI transactions earn points.
For several years the Ultimate card was issued on the Mastercard World platform. Following the Mastercard ban, issuance was paused. From February 2022 Standard Chartered resumed issuance through Visa, now as the Visa Infinite variant. In my view the Visa Infinite design and offering feel superior to the earlier Mastercard World version.

The Card

The Ultimate card features a striking black-and-gold look with a reflective Visa Infinite logo. Its appearance is among the most attractive in the premium card segment.
Joining Fees
- Joining/Renewal Fee: Rs 5,000 + GST
- Welcome Bonus: 6,000 Reward Points within 60 days after joining fee payment (approximate value: INR 6,000)
Note: In my case the welcome points posted about 50 days after paying the joining fee.
Reward Points
- 5 reward points for every INR 150 spent (1 Reward Point = INR 1)
- Effectively this equates to 1 reward point per INR 30 spent, improving real-world value
- Reward rate approximately 3.3%
- Reward redemption carries a processing fee of INR 99 + GST
- Reward Points can be redeemed as soon as a transaction posts; you do not need to wait for the statement
- Available gift voucher redemptions include categories such as Grocery, Fashion, Jewellery, select 5-star hotel chains and travel brands. Amazon and Flipkart gift vouchers are not offered as redemption options
With these features the Ultimate card competes directly with other top-tier cards and, in some respects, outperforms them because its reward points can be redeemed at face value (1 RP = INR 1) for eligible gift vouchers.
Note: Reward Points cannot be redeemed for statement credit or transferred to airline mileage programs.
How to Get?
The simplest route to the Ultimate card is an upgrade from an existing Standard Chartered credit card, particularly if your current credit limit is around INR 4 lakh. I upgraded from the Standard Chartered Smart credit card and the process was smooth.
If you are new to Standard Chartered, some applicants have obtained the Ultimate on a card-to-card (C2C) basis using a credit history that includes other banks’ cards with limits of INR 5 lakh or more and an account older than 12 months. If you pursue a C2C application, contact Standard Chartered customer support in advance — some applicants have reported rejections that affected their credit records.
Note: Holding Citibank or HSBC cards with limits over INR 4 lakh can improve the chances of approval for a C2C application.
Limitations
- Lifetime free (LTF) status is rarely granted unless you are a high-net-worth customer with Standard Chartered
- Spend-based fee waivers are not guaranteed; the bank may consider waivers for very high spenders on a case-by-case basis
- Fuel surcharge waiver is not applicable, although fuel transactions do earn reward points
- Priority Pass offering (1 complimentary lounge visit per month on meeting a monthly spend threshold) is modest for a card at this level
- Visa Infinite partner offers such as BookMyShow benefits have limited availability and quotas may be restricted
- Fewer merchant-specific offers compared with some competing premium cards
- No additional membership or branded tie-ups are included
- Amazon and Flipkart gift vouchers are not available as redemption options
Bottom Line
Many issuers have recently narrowed reward-earning categories, limiting points on wallets, fuel, rent, government payments and insurance. The Standard Chartered Ultimate stands out because it continues to reward broadly across most spend categories, delivering one of the highest regular reward rates available. If you want a premium card that you can use everywhere without worrying about category exclusions, the Ultimate is a strong option.
