Jet Airways Domestic Business Class Review: Mumbai to Coimbatore (BOM-CJB)

During a recent trip to Mumbai, I flew Jet Airways Business Class (Première) on the short BOM (Mumbai) → CJB (Coimbatore) route. Although using JPMiles for short domestic flights isn’t usually the most efficient redemption, I had three reasons to upgrade:

1. It was going to be my first business class experience.
2. I wanted access to the GVK Business Class lounge, which I had on my checklist.
3. I was able to redeem JPMiles at a value of about 1 JPMile ≈ 2.5 INR, which was tempting.

Booking

I originally booked an economy ticket by redeeming HDFC credit card reward points, a redemption worth about 7,000 INR. I then attempted an online upgrade to Première using JPMiles, but the online process failed. The upgrade was completed at the check-in counter instead.

Jet Airways Première – Ground Experience

1. Dedicated Check-in

I used the dedicated check-in counter, a benefit from a co-branded credit card. While checking my baggage, the agent informed me that business class seats were available and offered an upgrade. I completed a redemption form at the counter, burned 9,000 JPMiles, and was issued a business class boarding pass. My bags were tagged “Priority,” which sped up delivery on arrival.

2. Security Fast Track

There is a separate security lane for business class passengers. On this occasion the lane was almost empty, so the process was quick and painless.

3. Lounge Access

Business class access includes the GVK Business Class lounge at Mumbai T2. The lounge experience was excellent and worth the upgrade for the comfort and amenities before boarding.

Jet Airways Business Class – In-Flight Experience

The cabin offered a comfortable seat with extra legroom and good recline. Beyond the seat, these were the highlights of the flight.

1. Welcome Drink

Once settled, I was offered a welcome drink with a choice of watermelon or lime. I chose watermelon, which I always enjoy. The passenger beside me chose lime.

2. Cold Towel

A short time later a chilled towel was served. It was refreshing and especially welcome given the hot weather outside. The crew also handed out the evening dining menu so passengers could select their starter and dessert or juice.

I took the crew’s recommendation and ordered “Tawa Macchi,” a pan-fried fish option.

3. Food

Meal service began shortly after takeoff. My fish arrived hot and tasted very fresh and well-prepared. The dessert was pleasant but not especially memorable for me. Overall the quality and presentation were a clear step up from typical economy offerings.

4. The Fellow Traveler

Business class often attracts frequent fliers and occasional celebrities. On this flight I sat next to an experienced traveler who had visited more than 50 countries and flown thousands of flights. He was a Jet Privilege Platinum member and held several premium credit cards. Because economy was overbooked, he had been upgraded complimentary as a loyalty benefit. He generously shared travel tips and stories, which made the two-hour flight fly by and added a memorable social element to the experience.

Thanks to the priority tag, my luggage was among the first on the belt after landing.

Bottomline

Redeeming miles for a first-time business class experience can be worthwhile, especially when it provides access to lounge facilities, priority services, and noticeably better in-flight service. Full-price domestic business fares are often very expensive, so upgrades via miles or vouchers usually offer better value. Overall, this was a very pleasant experience—I enjoyed seat 1A and appreciated the faster baggage delivery at arrival.
