Each year I reward myself with a luxury getaway at a Taj property using the 10,000 INR voucher I receive with my American Express Platinum Travel Credit Card. In previous years I’ve used the voucher at Taj Santacruz, Mumbai and Taj Surya, Coimbatore, and I always enjoy the experience at Taj hotels.
Their attention to detail and consistent service make Taj one of the best hotel brands in the world. My stay at Vivanta by Taj Fisherman’s Cove Resort & Spa was no exception.

My Experience at Taj Fisherman’s Cove
Booking
- Cost: 9,500 INR + GST
I booked a Garden View room through Taj’s centralized reservations and requested a Sea View upgrade if available. Garden View rooms are technically more spacious, so I wasn’t counting on an upgrade—but this time I was pleasantly surprised.
Location
This luxury beach resort sits on the coast of the Bay of Bengal in Chennai, approximately 40 km from the airport. It’s an ideal spot for a weekend escape with friends, family, or as a couple.
- Uber from Airport: ~800 INR (about 1 hour 15 minutes)
Check-in & Lobby
Check-in was smooth and efficient. Guests wait in the lobby while staff complete the formalities and bring the welcome amenities. I received the traditional Taj greeting and a welcome drink. The process took less than 10 minutes, and I was then escorted to my room.
The Room
I was upgraded from Garden View to Sea View, which was a nice surprise. Sea View rooms are located in the main building, while Garden View rooms are a short distance away; electric carts are available to transport guests between areas.
The room interiors were elegant and comfortable. The window offered views of the pool and the sea beyond. Trees partially obstructed the ocean view, but the outlook remained scenic and relaxing—perfect for spending long hours unwinding.

The Resort
The resort sits on 48 acres of land, much of it covered in lush lawns and mature trees. The grounds are well maintained, offering plenty of scenic spots ideal for photography, leisurely walks, or a quiet moment on the grass.

To get the most out of the property, consider booking one of the beachfront cottages. They offer private outdoor areas facing the sea and provide a more intimate experience. Some cottages are older and undergoing renovation, so request a recently renovated cottage if available.

The Beach
The resort grants access to a private stretch of beach where guests can relax during cool evenings or early mornings. The beach is kept clean and is a peaceful place to enjoy sea breezes. During my stay the weather was pleasantly cloudy, which made our time on the sand even more enjoyable.

Breakfast & In-Room Dining
In-Room Dining: We ordered a sandwich that did not meet expectations considering the price—about 750 INR. Many items on the in-room menu felt significantly marked up.

Breakfast: Breakfast was included and offered a good selection of Western and Indian dishes. There were several tasty options, and my favorite was the cold coffee. I didn’t take photos before starting, but managed a mid-meal shot.

Check-Out
Checkout at this property takes place in a separate area opposite the check-in desk. The staff applied the room rate and food & beverage bills to my Taj voucher, allowing me to use the full voucher amount—a convenient way to settle the bill.

This memorable stay at Taj Fisherman’s Cove was made possible by the voucher from my American Express Platinum Travel Credit Card. If you enjoy luxury properties, consider a similar package to experience a Taj getaway.

Bottomline
Vivanta by Taj Fisherman’s Cove remains one of the best beach resorts near Chennai. Though the property shows some age in places, its charm and location continue to impress.
If you plan a stay, consider visiting in the winter months to make the most of the beach, pool, and pleasant outdoor conditions.
