Al Reem Lounge Abu Dhabi Airport Terminal 1 Review

It is a busy time of year—not because of work, but because of the numerous sales and offers on various e-portals and credit cards we’ve been covering. To take a break from the routine, I recently traveled to the UK and used the opportunity to review a few airport lounges. We planned our itinerary to visit multiple lounges en route to London. Our layover at Abu Dhabi International Airport was about four hours.

We walked roughly 15 minutes from our arrival terminal (Terminal 3) to Terminal 1 and headed to the Al Reem Lounge.

Al Reem Lounge at Abu Dhabi — Review

Check-in

There are two common ways to get complimentary access to this lounge: Priority Pass and HDFC Diners Club cards (including Diners ClubMiles, Premium and Black). At the reception we were asked which medium we would use. When I presented our Priority Pass, the agent politely suggested that the Al Reem Lounge is somewhat basic compared with their other option—Al Dhabi Lounge—and recommended we try that one for a better experience.

The suggestion made sense from the agent’s perspective, since Priority Pass charges per-entry fees to some lounges. He likely intended to save us a fee. We explained we had unlimited Priority Pass access and preferred to check out Al Reem first, relax for a while, then possibly move on. He seemed surprised but agreed.

Seating and Interiors

The lounge is compact but attractive and very well maintained. It smelled fresh and presented seating options suitable for families and solo travelers alike. There were dining tables near the buffet and comfortable couches for resting during long layovers. The layout allowed for plenty of seating and, during our visit, the lounge was not crowded.

Food and Drinks

The lounge offers a moderate buffet spread covering a variety of non-alcoholic beverages, starters, mains and desserts. Beverage options include a range of teas, coffee choices (espresso, cappuccino, macchiato), detox water, fruit juices and soft drinks. Alcoholic drinks are available at a paid bar, though service may be limited during Ramadan.

Food offerings included two soups (one vegetarian and one non-vegetarian), and a generous selection of kebab-style starters with chicken, lamb and steak options. Main courses featured biryani, rice, naan and several vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. The dessert selection was extensive, with multiple sweets and cakes and three ice cream flavors to choose from.
