HDFC Diwali Spend Offer: Get Vouchers Worth Up to ₹5,000

HDFC Bank has been running targeted credit card spend-based promotions aggressively since early 2019, as seen in earlier campaigns during February and May 2019 and other smaller rollouts. This Diwali the bank has again launched a set of targeted spend-based offers alongside several merchant promotions. Different cardholders receive different variants of the promotion; below are examples received by members of my family.

HDFC Diwali Spend-based Offers

  • Offer 1: Spend Rs. X in October to receive a voucher worth Rs. Y (valid for Oct 2019)
  • Offer 2: Spend Rs. XX each month for three consecutive months to receive a voucher worth Rs. YY (applicable for Oct–Dec 2019)

Offer 1 is the standard single-month threshold reward. Offer 2 is more layered: it requires consistent monthly spends across three months, making it similar in structure to other staged Diwali promotions from competing issuers.

Keep in mind these are targeted offers and not all cardholders receive them. Eligibility criteria remain opaque: even cards with substantial historical spend can sometimes be excluded, while others qualify unexpectedly.

Bottomline

These spend-based promotions are familiar territory for HDFC, but their appearance during Diwali adds value because you can often stack them with the bank’s merchant-specific offers and festive deals. For many everyday card users, the advertised 10% cashback across a range of brands in HDFC’s 2019 Diwali promo is useful. However, premium cardholders may find the rewards less compelling compared with last year’s more generous promotions, such as the 10X reward-point offers on electronics and apparel.

Hopefully future Diwali campaigns will return broader high-multiplier rewards on offline spend categories like electronics and apparel, or introduce richer voucher-based spend promos similar to those offered by other issuers in past seasons.

What do you think of HDFC Bank’s 2019 Diwali promotions? Did you receive a targeted spend-based offer this month?
