SBI Card Prime Features and Benefits – Review
Welcome Gift on SBI Card Prime
New cardholders receive a welcome e-gift voucher worth ₹3,000 redeemable at partner brands including Bata/Hush Puppies, Marks and Spencer, Pantaloons, Shoppers Stop or as a travel voucher on Yatra.
- The e-gift voucher code is sent to your registered mobile number within 15 days of request.
- For retail partners (Bata/Hush Puppies, Marks & Spencer, Pantaloons, Shoppers Stop) present the code in-store to redeem.
- For Yatra, redeem the code online during the booking process.
Between the retail options, Pantaloons is useful for apparel purchases; choose Yatra if you have upcoming travel plans.
Reward Points
- 20 RP per Rs.100 spent: Utility bill standing instructions (effective value ~5%)
- 20 RP per Rs.100 spent: All spends on your birthday (effective value ~5%)
- 15 RP per Rs.100 spent: BigBasket, Reliance Fresh, Reliance Smart, Reliance Footprint, Reliance Trends and Sahakari Bhandar (effective value ~3.75%)
- 10 RP per Rs.100 spent: Dining, groceries, departmental stores and movies (effective value ~2.5%)
- All other spends: 2 RP per Rs.100 (effective value ~0.5%)
- Value per Reward Point: Rs.0.25 (points can be converted to statement credit)
The card has several reward slabs. The standout is the 5% effective value on utilities and birthday spends with no stated upper cap. Department store and grocery categories also deliver solid value. Importantly, reward points can be adjusted as statement credit, providing flexibility similar to the Elite card.

This card is well-suited for families with frequent grocery and departmental store spending and can replace cards like the Standard Chartered Manhattan for many users.

Milestone Benefits
- Spend Rs.50,000 in a quarter: Get a Rs.1,000 Pizza Hut e-voucher (awarded every calendar quarter when threshold is met)
- Spend Rs.5,00,000 in a year: Get Rs.7,000 worth of Yatra or Pantaloons vouchers
Airport Lounge Access
- International: 4 complimentary Priority Pass visits per year for lounges outside India (maximum 2 visits per quarter)
- Domestic: 8 complimentary visits per year to domestic Visa/MasterCard lounges in India (maximum 2 visits per quarter)
- Complimentary lounge access applies to the primary cardholder only
Issuers are increasingly restricting Priority Pass usage to international lounges. This is often to manage the card issuer’s cost exposure, while domestic lounge access via Visa/MasterCard programs remains part of their core offering.
Club Vistara Membership
- Complimentary Club Vistara Silver membership
- One complimentary lounge access voucher and one upgrade voucher
- Earn 9 Club Vistara points for every ₹100 spent on Vistara flights
Club Vistara benefits, especially the complimentary upgrade voucher, add meaningful value for frequent Vistara flyers.
Other Features
- Complimentary Trident Privilege Red Tier membership and associated benefits
- Four complimentary rounds of golf green fees (terms may apply)
SBI CARD PRIME
How to get the best value from SBI Card Prime
SBI Card Prime packs many benefits in a single product. With a reasonable renewal-fee waiver threshold (Rs.3 lakh annual spend), the card delivers a high potential return if you align your spending to the high-reward categories. Here’s an illustrative example for Rs.5,00,000 annual spend:
- Assume significant spending falls into the 5% value categories: hypothetical reward value ~Rs.25,000
- Quarterly Pizza Hut vouchers (when thresholds met): up to Rs.4,000 annually
- Rs.7,000 Yatra/Pantaloons voucher for Rs.5,00,000 spend
- Aggregate potential benefit: around Rs.36,000 on Rs.5,00,000 spend (~7% effective value)
Actual value depends on your spending mix; even if you don’t always hit the top slabs, overall returns of 3–5% are achievable when milestone benefits are included.
- Cardexpert Rating: 4.5/5 (as of 2017)
Bottomline
SBI Card Prime is a compelling mid-premium option that replaces many features offered by higher-fee premium cards such as HDFC Regalia for a broader audience. The combination of reward rates, milestone benefits, lounge access and travel perks makes it a strong contender for families and frequent travelers who want a single card to cover multiple needs.
Customer experience and partner offers will continue to evolve, but SBI Card Prime is a strong entry that could shift market dynamics in the premium segment.
