I recently took a short trip to Coimbatore with a friend and chose to stay at the Taj. I had a Rs.10,000 Taj voucher from my American Express Platinum Travel credit card that was nearing expiry, so using it at a Taj property made sense. Last year I stayed at Taj Santacruz in Mumbai and had an excellent experience; this stay at Vivanta by Taj – Surya in Coimbatore met those expectations as well.
Quick Info: Vivanta by Taj – Surya, Coimbatore is a well-located business hotel close to Coimbatore Airport and the railway station. The hotel sits near Brookfields Mall and is surrounded by several high-end branded showrooms, making it convenient for shopping and dining.
Vivanta by Taj Surya – Lobby & Check-in:
The lobby is spacious, with seating areas on both sides leading to the check-in desk. While the arrival lacked the traditional, ceremonial welcome I experienced at Taj Santacruz, the check-in process was efficient and quick.
During our stay we noticed several Indigo crew members checking in and around the hotel, suggesting a partnership or frequent use by airline staff.
I originally booked a Superior Charm City View room for two nights, and the hotel upgraded the reservation to a Deluxe Allure Suite, which is the entry-level suite. Above it is the Presidential Suite, which I had a quick look at.
A brief comparison between the suites:
- Space: The Presidential Suite is roughly twice the size of the Deluxe Allure Suite.
- Cost: The Presidential Suite costs about five times more than the Deluxe Allure Suite.
When receiving an upgrade, note that applicable GST is charged according to the suite rate; during my stay the GST for a suite was 24%.
The Deluxe Allure Suite at Vivanta by Taj Surya, Coimbatore:
Dining & Living Room:
Our suite on the sixth floor opened into a comfortable living room with sofas, a television, and a dining table for two. A welcome amenity—nuts, raisins, biscuits, and fruit—was placed on the table. The nuts were crisp and tasted very fresh, matching or exceeding the quality of similar products available online.
A personalized welcome note from the General Manager was also on the table, a thoughtful touch that adds a warm, personal element to the arrival experience.
Bedroom:
The bedroom, adjacent to the living room, featured a comfortable, firm bed and a practical work table with a chair—ideal for business travelers. The suite offered a pleasant view of the swimming pool located on the building’s second floor.
Closet & Bathroom:
The closet was roomy and included a full-length mirror and a weighing scale. The bathroom was well-appointed with the signature Taj amenities. I find the soaps provided by Taj to be among the best—pleasantly scented and not overly oily.
Breakfast:
Breakfast offered a good variety and was delicious, consistent with the standards of other Taj hotels. The restaurant manager proactively collected guest feedback and explained unique items on the menu.
One highlight was a special idli called “Ramasseri Idli”—a flatter, softer idli with distinct flavor from Ramasseri in Palakkad, Kerala. The unique taste comes from the preparation method, and it’s worth trying when available.
Service in the restaurant was attentive and prompt—staff anticipate needs and ensure a smooth dining experience.
Bottomline:
Vivanta by Taj Surya, Coimbatore is the fourth Taj property I’ve stayed at and stands out as one of the best business hotels in Coimbatore. Its pricing is relatively affordable compared to some other Taj locations, making it a strong choice for both business and leisure travelers.
The hotel embodies the brand’s promise of “Tajness” through consistent service and presentation. The in-suite TVs played Taj promotional content by default, reinforcing the brand experience throughout the stay.
I plan to visit more Taj properties in the future. The loyalty program could use some improvements, but overall the stay at Vivanta by Taj Surya was very satisfying.
