Yes — the change is here. IndusInd Bank is revising lounge access benefits for some of its credit cards. The Iconia American Express card, long known as one of the few cards in India offering unlimited airport lounge access for both primary and add-on cardholders, will see that benefit restricted effective 2019.
I noticed the update on my Iconia statement and confirmed the change on the card issuer’s website. The new policy reduces unlimited lounge visits to just 2 visits per quarter for cardholders — a sharp cut from the previous unlimited access that many members chose the card for.
IndusInd credit card lounge access benefit changes
This reduction will be a disappointment for frequent travelers who selected the Iconia card primarily for unlimited lounge access. Two visits per quarter may be manageable for occasional flyers, but it removes the clear advantage that set the card apart.
Why this change makes sense for banks:
While cardholders value generous lounge access, banks must balance benefits against rising costs. Unlimited access is expensive to sustain if many cardholders use lounges regularly. Earlier in the year, ICICI Bank similarly capped visits on certain Jet Sapphiro Amex cards from unlimited to four visits per quarter, signaling a broader industry shift toward limiting open-ended lounge privileges.
At the moment, the Amex Jet Card remains one of the few cards offering truly unlimited access, but that could change if usage spikes. Card issuers often reassess benefits and may tighten privileges when costs climb.
What you can do next:
- Evaluate how often you use airport lounges. If you travel infrequently, 2 visits per quarter may still suffice.
- If you rely heavily on lounge access, consider holding multiple complementary cards that provide lounge visits to increase your total annual access.
- Alternatively, look into super-premium cards that still offer unlimited lounge access as part of a high-fee, high-benefit package — these are aimed at frequent flyers and HNI customers.
If you obtained the IndusInd Iconia card primarily for unlimited lounge access, this is an important update to consider. Many affected cardholders will need to rethink their strategy: keep the card for its other benefits, add another card for extra lounge access, or upgrade to a premium product that better matches travel needs.
