The initial version of the offer ran from September to November 2020 and was not as generous as similar programs in other countries. For December 2020, American Express India has improved the promotion, increasing the cashback to 50% on eligible transactions, up from the earlier 20%.

The 50% cashback is a meaningful incentive that can encourage more local businesses in selected cities to accept American Express cards. Bottomline
It is positive that American Express extended and enhanced the Shop Small campaign in India to better align with global promotions. However, a key limitation remains: the offer is available only in select cities rather than nationwide. Many potential beneficiaries across the country are excluded.
