Should you transfer?
Cathay Pacific operates flights between Hong Kong and several Indian cities, including Bengaluru (BLR), Chennai (MAA), Mumbai (BOM), and Delhi (DEL). Award seat availability on Cathay’s own flights is often strong, especially on key routes.
I redeemed miles for Cathay Business Class on BLR–HKG and HKG–MAA and found the experience worthwhile. Routes operated by the Airbus A350 offer a modern cabin and comfortable seating, making redemptions particularly enjoyable.
Typical Asia Miles redemption rates include around 23,000 miles for a one-way economy award and 32,000 miles for one-way business class, plus taxes of roughly INR 7,000. Sometimes round-trip redemptions can be more economical than two one-way awards, so check both options when planning travel.
If your schedule is flexible, you can also target premium redemptions such as Cathay First Class from Hong Kong to the U.S., which can be a memorable use of miles for about 125,000 Asia Miles one-way.
You can also redeem on Oneworld partners such as British Airways or SriLankan Airlines, though availability and value will vary by route and date. In many cases, Cathay’s own inventory offers the best combination of availability and redemption value.
Bottomline
This bonus miles promotion is most valuable for members who plan to make sizable, near-term redemptions. If you have a clear redemption goal—especially a high-value business or first class booking—the extra bonus increases the attractiveness of transferring points now.
If you don’t have immediate plans, it’s usually not advisable to accumulate miles with an airline program indefinitely without a redemption strategy. Cathay’s Asia Miles program uses soft expiry: any activity such as earning or redeeming miles, including points transfers, extends the account validity by 18 months. That provides some flexibility, but you should still consider your redemption plans before transferring large balances.
