American Express released a limited-time offer for personal credit and charge cardholders to earn extra rewards when spending via the Amex Reward Multiplier. The promotion is short but valuable — here’s a clear summary of what it includes and what to expect.
Offer Details
| Offer | Earn 20 points per Rs.100 spent via Reward Multiplier |
| Offer period | 26th & 27th July 2021 |
| Effective spend | Rs.1,25,000 to reach the 25,000 points maximum cap (as per the regular cap) |
| Return on spend | Minimum of about 5% |
| Fulfilment | Up to 120 days from the date of transaction |
In practical terms, this promotion translates to roughly 5% savings for many cardholders (assuming a value of 25 paise per point) and can be more valuable on specific products and redemption pathways — for example, certain travel or hotel redemptions and premium collections may increase effective value significantly.
Given market volatility and redemption variability, it’s reasonable to assume a conservative value range of 5–10% when planning spend for this offer.
This is a limited two-day opportunity and should not be overlooked if you can make eligible purchases within the window. Note that the standard Reward Multiplier cap applies: a maximum of 25,000 bonus points per card.
- Note: Aside from exclusions listed in Amex terms and conditions, the offer applies across merchants, including recently added e-vouchers, some of which may carry additional discounts.
For Centurion cardholders, Amex provided an especially generous rate: 20x rewards, equivalent to 60 points per Rs.100. That represents exceptional value and makes Centurion significantly more rewarding beyond its status and travel benefits.
Updates
- Clarity on e-vouchers: As confirmed by Amex on the evening of 26th July 2021, the two-day promotion includes bonus points for e-voucher purchases made through the specified Gyftr portal using Amex Multiplier.
- Fulfilment: Bonus points will be credited according to the Reward Multiplier calculation for each card. Any remaining points should post within the stated 120-day window.
Bottom line
While I’ve often been critical of the base Reward Multiplier setup, this promotion represents a meaningful improvement in bonus levels that makes the program more attractive. It’s the kind of enhanced earning that ideally would become a more frequent feature for premium cards.
If you have the ability to participate and the spending aligns with your needs, this limited offer is worth considering. It’s a solid chance to earn elevated rewards on everyday and specific purchases during the two-day window.
