Note: Please refer to this latest article for updated info: HDFC Diners 10X Program Gets Further Extended through March 2018
Since HDFC Diners launched its 10X rewards program in India, frequent users have eagerly tried to maximize the benefits. HDFC has periodically updated the partner list, adding and removing merchants. One of the major changes earlier was the removal of Flipkart, Snapdeal and Myntra. That loss was softened when Amazon.in was added as a partner — a significant inclusion because of the platform’s vast product range. But recent changes have altered that landscape.
HDFC Diners 10X Rewards
Amazon removed from the 10X partner list: As of 1 November 2017, Amazon.in has been removed from the list of 10X partners. This is disappointing for many Diners Card holders who relied on the 10X multiplier when shopping on Amazon. The move was not entirely unexpected: with the introduction of Amazon Pay, the 10X earn rate on Amazon became a popular way to rack up points and use them across merchants that accept Amazon Pay.
Changes effective 1 November 2017: HDFC Bank has removed Amazon.in from the Diners 10X partner list. While the overall 10X program remains available, this adjustment will affect cardholders who used Amazon regularly to earn accelerated points.
- The 10X program has been extended until 31 March 2018.
- CaratLane has been added as a new 10X partner. CaratLane also appears among the 5X partners for other HDFC credit cards, but for Diners it will earn 10X points. Note that points for CaratLane transactions will be credited within 90 days of the statement generation date (see additional T&Cs below).
- Amazon.in has been removed from the 10X partner list.
Although the program extension through March 2018 is welcome, the removal of Amazon will disappoint many cardholders who counted on those accelerated points for everyday purchases.
UPDATE: New terms and conditions for merchant CaratLane
- Gold coins purchases are excluded from the 10X program.
- Both in-store and online transactions at CaratLane will be eligible for 10X points (except gold coins).
- The 9X incremental points for November 2017 purchases will be credited within 90 days from 30 November 2017. From 1 December 2017 onward, incremental points for eligible CaratLane spends (excluding gold coins) will be credited in the next statement cycle, consistent with other merchants.
How do you feel about these changes? Share your thoughts and strategy in the comments. With Amazon removed from the 10X list, cardholders may need to re-evaluate where they concentrate their spending to maximize rewards — whether that means shifting purchases to CaratLane for eligible categories, targeting other 10X partners, or using alternative cards or merchant offers.
