It’s been over two years since I last received a spend-based offer on an HDFC credit card. I finally received one on my HDFC Diners Black credit card for January 2019. The first email I got only mentioned that I needed to spend a certain amount but did not specify which voucher would be issued.
This time the communication was clearer and formatted as a spend Rs.X to get Rs.Y voucher from a set of participating brands. Below is a summary of the offer.

Rs.5000 Voucher Offer Details
- Type: Targeted, spend-based
- Spend threshold: Personalised
- My offer: Get a Rs.5000 voucher on spending Rs.1,00,000
- Offer period: 1st Feb – 28th Feb 2019
- Only customers who received the communication are eligible for the offer
- Fulfilment: May 2019
- Effective savings: 8.3% (5% as voucher + 3.3% as reward points)
- Offer T&C
An effective 8.3% return is attractive, but HDFC’s past fulfilment of targeted offers has sometimes been slow or inconsistent. I’m hopeful this one will be processed smoothly; I will update this thread with the outcome.

Bottomline
HDFC’s targeting appears to rely on a complex system, making it difficult to predict who receives these offers. Still, it’s good to see spend-based promotions returning to HDFC credit cards.
Based on previous discussions with other readers, this communication was likely sent to a sizable group of cardholders.
