HDFC Unveils New Rewards Portal for Premium Credit Card Holders

HDFC Bank has begun notifying some credit cardholders about changes to its Rewards portal. The updated portal is now live and can be accessed from the Privileges tab on the HDFC SmartBuy page. Below is a clear summary of what the new portal offers and what to watch for.

New Design

The portal is now organized into three card-specific sections: Infinia, Diners Club and Regalia. Each section has its own layout and menus to reflect the privileges and redemption options for that card family.

The new interface is visually richer and responsive, but in places the design feels over-styled. Clear functionality should take priority over excessive visual detail. One confusing aspect for users is that the rewards portal remains linked through SmartBuy; a dedicated domain or cleaner entry point might have reduced confusion.

By comparison, some other issuers like Yes Bank offer a straightforward rewards hub that lets you switch card types and see relevant options immediately. American Express has also steadily refined its portal, although their earning mechanics are stricter.

Earning Points Simplified

For users who already know how to navigate SmartBuy to earn accelerated points, the process hasn’t changed much. What the new portal does offer is easier access for beginners: key shopping and partner links are consolidated under a “Shop & Earn” section. That cuts down on the time and confusion involved in finding eligible merchants and offers.

Redeeming Points Gets Tricky

Catalog redemptions, such as electronics and accessories, are now easy to find and can be completed in a few clicks. However, ease of redemption does not mean good value: many catalog items convert points at significantly lower rates, sometimes reducing the points’ cash-equivalent value by up to half.

Because these catalog options are prominent, some cardholders—especially new or infrequent users—may choose them without realizing the poor redemption value. That likely benefits the bank by increasing catalog redemptions and reducing the bank’s liability for points. Additionally, there appear to be new limits and rules affecting mid-tier cards; check the FAQ section in the portal for details.

Bottomline

The refreshed portal is modern, responsive and consolidates multiple legacy pages into a single interface. For many users this brings convenience, but there is limited tangible improvement in rewards value or flexibility. The easier access to shop-and-earn links is useful, yet prominent catalog redemptions may encourage choices that deliver poorer value for your points.
