American Express (India) has recently enabled transfers from Amex Membership Rewards (MR) Points to Club Vistara (CV) Points, Vistara’s loyalty currency. This article explains the transfer ratio, how much value you can expect, and whether transferring makes sense for you.

The Value
- Transfer ratio: 3 Amex MR Points = 1 Club Vistara Point
- Estimated CV point value: ~0.75 INR per Club Vistara Point (personal valuation)
- Effective value: 1 Amex MR Point ≈ 0.25 INR
In other words, transferring MR points to Club Vistara yields about 25 paise per Amex MR Point. My baseline valuation for an Amex MR Point is at least 50 paise, so this conversion would deliver roughly half the value I typically expect.
For comparison, recent redemptions through hotel partners like Marriott often produce close to Rs.1 per Marriott Bonvoy Point (which can be considered equivalent to 1 Amex MR Point after transfers). At that rate, moving points to Vistara represents a significant loss in potential value.
The clear takeaway: converting Amex MR Points to Club Vistara Points is one of the lower-value options available. If you want better returns on Amex points, look into other transfer partners or redemption routes that typically offer higher per-point value.
Should I Transfer?
- Quick answer: No, generally not.
- Long answer: Maybe, in limited situations.
Although the transfer generally offers poor value, there are scenarios where a small transfer makes sense. If you’re a few CV points short of a desired redemption or a crucial Business Class upgrade, topping up with Amex MR Points can be practical. Transfer only the minimum required for that specific redemption rather than moving large balances.
Bottomline
The ability to move Amex MR Points to Club Vistara is a welcome addition in terms of flexibility, but the economics are weak unless Amex or Vistara runs a substantial transfer bonus. If large bonuses (for example, 100% or more) appear for this pairing, the calculus could change. Until then, the conversion delivers limited value compared with other redemption options.
Overall: a useful option to have, but not a high-value one. Use it sparingly—primarily to top up for specific redemptions or upgrades rather than as a regular conversion path.
Personally, I still enjoy flying Vistara Business Class when the opportunity arises; it remains an excellent product. Hopefully Club Vistara expands its partner network over time, which could improve the utility and value of CV points for international travel.
