What is 10X Rewards?
HDFC 10X Rewards is an accelerated loyalty program that awards significantly more points on eligible spends—up to ten times the usual rate. The bonus applies only when you shop with designated partner merchants, not at every retailer.
The partner list covers major categories like shopping and travel. With high-traffic partners such as Amazon and Flipkart added to the program in recent years, the coverage now aligns with many everyday needs.
Why is it Popular?
The program gained popularity largely because of two premium HDFC cards: HDFC Infinia and HDFC Diners Club Black. These cards could effectively deliver reward rates that translated into very high returns on spending under the 10X structure.
At peak valuations, the effective return for certain redemption options could feel extremely generous compared to standard industry reward rates, which typically range from 1–3% on regular spends and up to around 10% on specific accelerators. That made these cards highly attractive to frequent spenders and rewards enthusiasts.
Many cardholders accumulated large balances of reward points through concentrated spending on promotional partners. Those points often carry significant redemption value for flights, hotels and vouchers, which made the program especially appealing.
Types of 10X Rewards
HDFC offered 10X rewards through multiple channels. The program initially ran primarily for Diners cards, then expanded through HDFC Smartbuy, the bank’s online rewards portal. Smartbuy broadened the list of eligible merchants and brought accelerated rewards to more card variants.
Note: Diners-specific 10X partner listings were paused temporarily at times, while Smartbuy continued to operate and evolve.
Smartbuy

Smartbuy hosts multiple merchants that earn accelerated points—previously many were at 10X before periodic program changes reduced some to 5X or 3X. Smartbuy categories commonly include:
- Amazon
- Flipkart
- Instant Vouchers
- Hotels
- Bus Booking
- Train Bookings
- Flight Bookings
Refer to the savings section below for typical reward rates by category.
Diners Partners
Diners merchant partners historically offered 10X points, but some partner listings were paused—initially due to disruptions from COVID-19 and partner operational challenges. Periodically HDFC adjusted or restored specific Diners partners as conditions changed.
Savings
Typical savings or effective value through Smartbuy varied by card and category. A simplified view of how accelerated rewards compared for premium cards versus other card types:
| Category | Infinia/Diners Black (points) | Other Cards (cashback) |
| Instant Vouchers | 33% (10X Rewards) | 5% |
| Flights / Hotels | 33% (10X Rewards) | 5% |
| Bus | 33% (10X Rewards) | 5% |
| Rail | 16.5% (5X Rewards) | 5% |
| Amazon | 16.5% (5X Rewards) | 5% |
| Flipkart | 9.9% (3X Rewards) | 1% |
| Compare & Shop | 9.9% (3X Rewards) | 1% |
Max. Cap (Smartbuy)
HDFC applied monthly caps for bonus rewards earned via Smartbuy. As of 1 June 2020, the maximum bonus caps were:
| HDFC Credit Card Variant | Max. Cap (per calendar month) |
| Infinia | 15,000 Points |
| Diners Black | 7,500 Points |
| Regalia / Diners Privilege Credit card | Rs. 2,000 cashback |
| Other Credit / Debit card / Prepaid cards | Rs. 1,000 cashback |
Best Practices
Follow these practical steps to maximize the chance of earning accelerated Smartbuy rewards, especially for Amazon and Flipkart purchases:
- Open the merchant site from Smartbuy using a desktop browser—mobile apps and mobile web can introduce tracking issues.
- Add intended items to your wishlist first and keep the cart empty until you start the tracked session.
- Record the session or keep screenshots of key pages (order confirmation and the Smartbuy checkout path) to have proof in case of any dispute.
- Open the merchant link from Smartbuy, then add items to cart from the product page rather than directly from the wishlist page when possible.
- Use a single browser tab and complete checkout immediately after adding items to reduce tracking errors.
- Pay with the credit card linked to the Smartbuy session and save a snapshot of the confirmation page and order email.
For Flipkart, transacting through the merchant’s Smartbuy landing page usually suffices; for Amazon, confirmation emails indicating the Smartbuy transaction are helpful for future disputes.
Tracking Points
A common drawback of HDFC’s accelerated rewards has been limited transaction-wise visibility of bonus points. Unlike some other banks, HDFC historically did not display reward points against each statement line item, which makes tracking harder for customers.
To monitor your 10X rewards, maintain your own record—an Excel sheet or similar—and reconcile points every 60–90 days. Prioritize high-value transactions for efficiency.
If you find discrepancies:
- Call the card support team (Infinia / Diners) to request a transaction-wise reward history for both billed and unbilled periods.
- If phone support doesn’t resolve it, follow up by email with screenshots and order confirmations.
- Escalate via social media channels if needed to get attention to unresolved cases.
Many users reported improvements in tracking issues over recent years, but occasional mismatches can still occur and require active follow-up.

FAQ’s
1. Is the 10X rewards program still worth it?
Yes—primarily for holders of top-tier cards like Infinia and Diners Black. Even after devaluations, accelerated rewards on certain categories (instant vouchers, travel) can make these cards valuable for the right users.
2. Will 10X on Flipkart & Amazon return?
Reintroducing 10X depends on commercial agreements with the merchants and broader market conditions. Given operational factors and past shifts, a full return to 10X across major marketplaces is uncertain.
3. Will max caps improve in the future?
There is no clear indication they will increase. Current caps reflect the bank’s balancing of cost and promotional value and may remain conservative for the foreseeable future.
4. Should I close Infinia/Diners Black now?
If you can meet the spend required for the renewal fee waiver, it generally makes sense to retain the card. Even with reduced multipliers, the effective reward on regular spends can still be compelling for premium-card users.
5. I can’t redeem points for travel now—why hold points?
Points typically have a multi-year validity window (for example, three years for some premium cards). As travel restrictions ease, redemption options and value can return, so many cardholders prefer to retain earned balances.
6. How could HDFC improve the 10X experience?
Less frequent changes (quarterly or half-yearly updates) and transparent, transaction-level reporting of rewards would reduce confusion, lower support volumes and give customers more confidence in tracking and redeeming points.
Bottom line
HDFC’s 10X Rewards program remains attractive for certain cardholders, particularly those holding premium cards, but it is not as generous as it once was. The bank ran an exceptionally rewarding program for several years, enabling many customers to earn large point balances quickly. Recent devaluations and changes were expected as market conditions evolved.
For existing cardholders, following best practices when transacting through Smartbuy and actively tracking points remains the best approach. For everyone else, monitoring future partner updates will reveal whether HDFC restores higher multipliers or introduces new valuable partners.
