One of the popular promotions from American Express in partnership with BookMyShow is back: the Monthly Blockbuster movie offer. The program has been updated, and the key change is that Amex now emphasizes usage on supplementary cards.

To qualify, you must enroll in the offer and meet the minimum transaction requirement. The notable change in this version is that the qualifying spend must occur on a supplementary card rather than only on the primary card. That shifts the focus toward households where an additional cardholder—typically a family member—regularly uses the card.
This updated condition means the offer is most practical for families who already use supplementary Amex cards for everyday spending. If your household naturally uses a supplementary card, meeting the required spend is straightforward. For others, arranging qualifying transactions solely to earn vouchers is less appealing—especially since the spend thresholds are significant.
There are a few practical considerations worth noting:
- Managing and coordinating supplementary card usage can be cumbersome for some cardholders.
- The Rs.1,000 voucher has higher value in metropolitan areas where ticket prices are higher; in regions where ticket caps are low, such as certain non-metro states, the voucher’s utility is limited.
Personally, I’ve taken advantage of previous versions of this offer, but I plan to skip this iteration for two main reasons: the requirement for supplementary-card usage complicates participation, and the Rs.1,000 voucher delivers less value outside larger cities where ticket caps are low.
