I’ve received many requests to review Kotak credit cards, so I finally decided to write about one of them. I had avoided reviewing Kotak cards earlier because most offer limited rewards and lack a distinctive selling point, aside from the movie-related benefits. The Kotak PVR Gold card focuses on movie vouchers rather than a traditional reward-points system. Cardholders earn PVR vouchers each month by meeting spend milestones as follows:
- Spend 10,000 INR and receive one PVR voucher worth 400 INR (effective reward rate: 4%)
- Spend 15,000 INR and receive two PVR vouchers worth 400 INR each (total 800 INR; effective reward rate: 5.3%)
Here’s what an actual cardholder, Varun Patil, shared about using the Kotak PVR Gold card:
“I spend more than 15,000 INR per month and get two PVR tickets, each worth 400 INR. I usually book PVR recliner seats; if the ticket price is 400 INR, I only pay about 32 INR extra (internet handling fee 25 INR + 7 INR GST). The vouchers can’t be used for PVR Gold and IMAX screens, but for recliners this is still a great deal.”
This card makes sense if you frequently visit PVR and prefer recliner seats, because regular non-recliner tickets are often priced below 300 INR and may not justify holding this card.
Bottomline
If you can consistently hit the 15,000 INR monthly spend threshold, the Kotak PVR Gold card can deliver an attractive reward rate of over 5%. That makes it a rewarding choice for the right user.
However, there are two important limitations to consider: first, the benefits are limited to PVR cinemas, and second, reaching the 15,000 INR target may be inconvenient for some cardholders. If you need to concentrate your spending to earn the vouchers, it can create pressure and reduce the card’s practical value.
